The main goal of this project is to provide reliable data on the distribution and location of IFLs. It will allow government agencies, industry and the public to make more informed decisions concerning to the use and protection of forests.

In this project, the IFLs were adopted as natural areas of over 50 thousand hectares within the forest zone without anthropogenic disturbances (it was a modified version of the methodology of IFLs for Russia).

Intact forest landscapes cover 339 mln ha. It’s more than half of the study area (600mln ha), or more than a third of all Canada territory.
