The surface of our planet is today permanently observed from space by many various satellites. The information collected by the satellites is objective, up to the date, independent, and getting more and more publicly available.

Everyone knows Google Maps. As you know, in this portal we could see not only maps but also satellite and aerial images. There are, however, limitations for using satellite images from Google Maps.

Revealing more than we could see with our own eyes – modern multi-spectral imagery

This lecture explains some basic principals of the optical remote sensing and of the modern multispectral satellite images. You will learn why "false colors" in satellite images could be better than "natural colors", what are spectral bands and how to combine them into multispectral images using Sentinel Hub EO Browser.

The second part of this video will guide you (again) through the process of online contours drawing and using the saved contours for locating the area in Google Earth Pro and Sentinel Hub EO Browser. Both online tools allow "timetravels" with satellite images and seing how the areas looked like years and decades ago.

The part of this video demonstrates import KML/KMZ-file to Google Maps from different sources. It also demonstrates an example of limitations of Google Maps for remote areas, as well as how to get extra satellite data with Google Earth Pro and Sentinel EO Browser.
